Manager: Software Engineer
Manager: Software Engineer – CAPE TOWN – ONSITE
Purpose: Supervises a software engineering team, overseeing people leadership, technical direction, and delivery execution to ensure high-quality software aligned with business objectives, sustainable delivery practices, and team capability growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sets technical direction and standards, balancing quality, maintainability, and business timelines
- Leads coaching, mentorship, and performance management to build a high-performing team
- Manages delivery commitments, stakeholder communication, and dependency coordination
- Owns production stability for the team’s services, including incident response
- Drives process improvement, tooling, and adoption of new technologies
- Manages technical risk, including technical debt, testing gaps, and security/performance issues
Experience & Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent advanced diploma with management experience)
- 6–8 years of progressive software engineering experience, including 2–3 years in formal or informal team leadership
