Junior Commercial Attorney
The client is seeking a driven and commercially minded Junior Commercial Attorney to join their legal team. The successful candidate will have 2-3 years’ experience with exposure to commercial law, contract drafting, corporate advisory work, and general business transactions. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse portfolio of clients across various industries, providing practical legal solutions aligned with commercial objectives.
The ideal candidate will possess strong drafting and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment. The role requires a proactive professional who can work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative legal team.
The successful candidate will assist clients with a broad range of commercial matters, including contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, corporate structuring, due diligence investigations, and general commercial advisory services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a wide range of commercial agreements.
- Provide legal support on corporate and commercial transactions.
- Assist with company formations, restructures, shareholder arrangements, and corporate governance matters.
- Conduct legal research and provide commercially practical legal opinions.
- Advise clients on regulatory and compliance-related matters.
- Support mergers and acquisitions, due diligence investigations, and transactional processes where applicable.
- Prepare board resolutions, shareholder resolutions, and other corporate documents.
- Liaise with clients, counsel, regulators, and other stakeholders professionally and effectively.
- Manage legal matters from inception through to completion within required deadlines.
- Identify legal risks and provide strategic solutions to clients.
- Maintain accurate records, case files, and document management systems.
- Stay updated on developments in commercial and corporate law.
Minimum Requirements:
- LLB degree from a recognised South African university.
- Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
- 2-3 years’ experience in commercial law.
- Strong experience in drafting and reviewing commercial agreements.
- Sound understanding of South African corporate and commercial legislation.
- Excellent legal drafting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple matters independently and efficiently.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal practice management software.
