IT Support Engineer / Network Administrator
 
Our well-established client, within the Shipping / Logistics sector in Durban is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated IT Engineer / Network Administrator to join their team.
 
IT Environment
    • The company uses Windows PCs and Servers; the Servers are hosted in an on-premises VMWare environment in Cape Town.  
    • An on-premises Microsoft SQL Server supports our developed and packaged solutions and the offices in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg are connected with an SDWan.  
    • The company is currently migrating from desktop Office 2016 software to Microsoft 365 and from an on-premises Exchange server to Exchange Online. The aim is to move all on-premises applications and infrastructure into the cloud within the next 24 months.  
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in managing all IT infrastructure at the Durban Facility.  This will include:
    • Setting up and administering Windows PCs and Android hand-held devices for the line-of-business system
    • Managing and maintaining the Durban facility’s network infrastructure, ensuring the smooth operation of our systems
    • Providing first-line support to end-users. The ideal candidate should possess good technical expertise and problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and excellent communication skills.  
 
Key Responsibilities:
    • Manage antivirus (AV) products and ensure systems are protected against malware and other security threats.
    • Ensure end user devices are properly up to date.  
    • Configure and maintain Windows desktops and laptops; wireless Android devices, and printers.
    • Support and administer Microsoft Office suite applications.
    • Provide user support and troubleshooting for desktops, laptops, and other end-user devices.
    • Understand enough of the business systems to provide first-line support and address issues.
    • Assist end-users in logging helpdesk tasks to notify and track problems
    • Report problems to Head-Office IT in Cape Town, and to vendors where necessary.   
    • Build trouble-shooting guides for common and recurring problems.  
    • Proactively implement improvement solutions to the IT infrastructure
    • Compiles IT equipment asset register
    • Responsible for procurement of related software and hardware to enhance business operations subject to department and IT head.
 
Minimum Requirements:
    • Matric + Relevant IT Qualification
    • CompTIA / Microsoft Certifications
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role
    • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and self-start.
    • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Proven experience as an IT Systems Administrator or similar role.
    • Experience providing user support and troubleshooting.
    • Familiarity with antivirus products and windows updates.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
