KZN

About the Role
An established KwaZulu-Natal civil construction contractor is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead safety compliance and culture across multiple active construction sites. Reporting to senior management, you will own the full H&S system — from safety files and audits to incident investigations and officer mentorship.

What You’ll Do
    • Design, implement and maintain project safety files and legal registers in line with the OHS Act and Construction Regulations.
    • Run a structured site audit programme (planned and unplanned); drive findings to close-out.
    • Control high-risk activities: excavations, lifting operations, work at heights, plant, traffic accommodation.
    • Lead incident and near-miss investigations, root cause analysis and preventative actions.
    • Manage IOD administration and COID processes.
    • Plan and deliver toolbox talks, inductions and targeted training.
    • Oversee PPE procurement, issuance and enforcement.
    • Lead and mentor site H&S Officers; standardise practices across projects.
    • Produce weekly/monthly safety reports covering audit scores, leading and lagging indicators.

What We’re Looking For
    • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Safety, Risk Management or equivalent.
    • 5+ years’ construction safety experience, including multi-site oversight and team leadership.
    • Solid working knowledge of the OHS Act and Construction Regulations.
    • Valid driver’s licence (regular site travel required).
    • SACPCMP registration (CHSO/CHSM) or eligibility to register.
    • ISO 45001 implementation or internal audit experience.
    • Basic environmental compliance and file management exposure.
    • Strong planner with a practical, hands-on approach to risk control.
    • Confident site presence — able to enforce standards without disrupting production.
    • Clear, accurate written documentation skills (safety files, reports, investigations).
    • Effective stakeholder manager across client teams, supervisors, workforce and subcontractors.
