General Manager – Cape Town
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly driven, results-oriented General Manager to lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Cape Town facility. The successful candidate will be a strong leader with excellent managerial skills, capable of driving operational excellence, maintaining high production standards, and leading teams to achieve business objectives.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the aluminium manufacturing and glazing industry, possess a thorough understanding of BIBC operations and processes in Cape Town, and be confident in making difficult decisions while maintaining accountability across all departments.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee the daily operations of the manufacturing facility.
- Ensure production targets, quality standards, and delivery deadlines are consistently achieved.
- Improve operational efficiency and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor production costs and identify opportunities to increase profitability.
- Ensure machinery, equipment, and facilities are maintained to minimise downtime.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, motivate, and develop management and production teams.
- Hold department managers accountable for performance and results.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and implement performance improvement plans where required.
- Foster a culture of discipline, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing employees.
Financial Management
- Manage operational budgets and control expenditure.
- Monitor labour costs, production costs, and overheads.
- Review financial reports and implement strategies to improve profitability.
- Authorise expenditure in line with company policy.
- Over see all wages and salaries
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety legislation and company policies.
- Promote a safe working environment.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
Quality Control
- Ensure products meet customer specifications and company quality standards.
- Work closely with production teams to reduce waste and improve quality.
- Resolve quality-related issues promptly.
Customer & Supplier Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and suppliers.
- Resolve customer complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Ensure suppliers meet agreed service levels.
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all labour legislation and company policies.
- Maintain accurate operational records and reporting.

Essential Requirements
- Minimum 8–10 years’ senior management experience in the aluminium manufacturing, glazing, facade industry.
- Proven experience managing a manufacturing or production facility.
- Strong understanding of aluminium fabrication, installation, and manufacturing processes.
- Sound knowledge of BIBC (Building Industry Bargaining Council) requirements and labour practices applicable in Cape Town.
- Strong knowledge of labour legislation and disciplinary procedures.
- Experience managing production, warehouse, logistics, procurement, and installation teams.
- Computer literate with experience using ERP or manufacturing systems.
- Valid driver’s licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Business Management, Operations Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- Project Management qualification (advantageous)
