Role Overview
 
The Senior Commercial Analyst will support the Commercial Team by providing high quality commercial information and analysis for decision-making. The role will report directly into the Head of Department: Commercial.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Actively support the HOD: Commercial in building a best-in-class Commercial Capability.
    • Drive the delivery of key Commercial KPI’s i.e. Turnover, Margin and Stock targets.
    • Lead the development of a ROI mindset in pricing, promotions, stock management and category management.
    • Develop and deliver sales and margin forecasting capability for the business.
    • Proactively identify and drive sales growth and margin improvement opportunities.  
    • Drive KVI – Top Sellers by Category.
    • Partner with the COO and all functions within the structure in evaluating commercial opportunities and risks. This includes Buying, Sales Operations, Marketing and the Supply Chain.
    • Develop product costing capability and provide ongoing costing updates for service departments.
    • Deep-dive into key issues and challenges through data analysis and discussions with relevant stakeholders and synthesize into succinct findings and recommendations.
    • Develop, update and issue all management reports for the COO Organization.
    • Develop and provide an analytics capability for the organization that allows for faster, high quality performance insights that lead to actionable value-creating opportunities.
    • Support the leadership team in tracking the progress of all in-flight projects across all functional areas.
    • Preparation of impactful content (internal and external presentations, newsletter, reports) for the COO, coordinating the input of various stakeholders.
    • Build and develop the Commercial department through recruitment, coaching and skills development.
    • Supply Chain – Cost to serve in to store or DC (Pros and Cons of DC versus Drop Shipments).
    • Vendor – Implement and Manage Various Business Programmes (Joint Business Planning).
    • Feasibility – New Business Opportunity incl. New Store, New Product, New Category, New Department.
    • Preparing, managing and reporting of all Budgets (i.e. Turnover, Stock, Margin, Collections, Waste, Costing).
    • Processes and controls implementation w.r.t Buying Admin, Marketing, Buying, Replenishment, Planning, Master – File Management.
    • Setup Back and Front Margin Strategy for the business by Category and Department.
    • Ensuring that all Departments manage and report on Vendor SLA’s.
    • Ensure Compliance and Adherence to Brand Strategy.
Requirements: Skills, Qualifications and Experience required
    • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, or related field
    • Proven experience (min. 5 years) in commercial, FP&A or finance business partnering roles.
    • Honours degree / CIMA/CFA or other advanced degree advantageous
    • Experience in Retail or FMCG sector advantageous.
    • Advanced MS Excel and PowerPoint skills
    • Qliksense experience
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
